The damask slicing knife is made from "wild damask". The handle of the damask slicing knife is made from extremely hard, up to 1500 years old desert iron wood.
The damask steel, which is used for the production of the damask slicing knife, is composed by two types of steel, which are connected under highest temperatures: First, there is a high-alloyed tool steel (Nr. 1.2842), which is hard but brash and then a viscous, hard nickel steel, which has 5-6 % content of nickel (soft and flexible). Those two steels are alternatively joined to more than 300 layers. The result is a hard but still elastic steel. The shape of a knife's blade is forged in a swage by a two tons drop hammer from one piece of this steel. 50 other work steps need to be completed at the manufacture Güde to finish the damask slicing knife.
The unique grain of the blade of the damask slicing knife is accentuated thanks to a special etching procedure.
We recommend cleaning the damask slicing knife by hand and lubricating it afterwards with acid-free oil.
The damask slicing knife is not rustproof.
